MORE
SPEED CAMERAS !
Those used to the daily commute through Ballyhackamore
of a morning will have observed the speed camera on the Upper Newtownards
Road already. This camera will clock you breaking the speed limit at that point and your penalty notice will be sent to you in the post.
However a new camera has arrived in the form of "SPECS". This state of the
art system is situated between Dundonald and Newtownards and
derives the average speed of a vehicle between the two camera positions.
The system automatically records your number plate using digital technology when entering the monitored zone and again automatically records it when leaving the zone. The time stamps are then compared in conjunction with the speed limit and were
appropriate penalty notices are issued.
According to the website speedcamerasuk.com being "prosecuted in the UK by a SPECS speed/safety camera system can result in a minimum of 3 penalty points and a £60 fine", although the site indicates that this may change (contact the DoT for up-to-date information).
