News: Monumental Cost £460,000
Ever driven past one of the city's roundabouts and thought to yourself, I wish our
politician's would waste half a million pounds of hard earned public money and put a pointless piece of
modern art there?
You have, then your wish has come true. For despite many in the city not having two pennies to rub together, a Belfast roundabout is to get a 'sculpture' costing a huge £460,000.
The monumental expense is to take its place this spring, on the Broadway roundabout in West Belfast. The art which is called the 'Rise' will be a
whooping 123 feet by 98 feet and its apparent selling point is that it will be visible from all over Belfast and by tens of thousands of cars every week.
The art itself is made up of two globes cast in silver and white steel and designed by artist Wolfgang Buttress who is based in Nottingham.
