Travel News: Metro Service Crashes In City
Centre Queen Street as been closed to traffic following an accident where a City Bus Metro service has crashed into a bus shelter.. Emergency services are in attendance. The accident
occurred at approximately at 2:15pm and is reported to have
happened as the bus was pulling into the stop. The bus struck the shelter where a number of people were waiting to board. The glass shelter
disintegrated on on impact, leaving only the metal structure which had been knocked sideways.. Belfast bus operators Translink have indicated that two people have been taken to hospital, but reports are that their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. Editorial The new bus arrangements remain a major cause for concern. Belfast City Centre now has buses cramming into side streets and at each side of the Belfast City Hall. Given the number of incidents, buses double parking and the increase in dangerous
maneuvers it is only a matter of time before someone is killed or seriously injured.
With the new traffic and bus stop arrangements in the City, it will not be long before Belfast News is reporting further injuries of even deaths and it will be
of little consolation to those suffering
that corporate manslaughter charges may
be applicable.
The Council, Translink & the DRD should act quickly to resolve the immediate dangers of the new arrangement or they might be making the Belfast
News themselves.
