The partner of a serving police officer has been targeted in a bomb attack in Cherryvalley's Kingsdale Park. This
quiet residential street awoke to a loud explosion when the bomb
detonated as the 38 year old woman maneuvered out of the driveway at about 7.30 this morning.
Initially, residents thought it to be a car accident and were shocked to hear it was a bomb. The victim was taken to hospital suffering minor injuries and was later released. Police were quickly on the scene, sealing the street and conducting door to door enquiries.
Forensic teams then searched the street, gardens and
roof tops for every pick of evidence.
Also at the scene were local politicians such as Robin Newton, junior minister to the Northern Ireland Assembly,
Naomi Long Belfast Mayor, Sir Reg Empey leader of the Ulster Unionist Party and Lord Wallace Brown. Constituency MP and First Minister Peter Robinson said "It's an appalling and evil act that was clearly intended to murder"
The Mayor of Belfast reflected the views of many when she intimated, that it is only thanks to the Grace of God that somebody's life wasn't lost here.
This quiet area has had the horrors of the past
re-visited upon them and are in awe as to why one of
their neighbours, who is not a serving police officer,
was attacked in this way.
